What to do when fever or stomach trouble begins before your flight home, how a medical assessment can inform travel plans, and when to seek care after returning.
Your bags are packed and your flight home is close, but now you have a fever or stomach trouble. It is difficult to know whether to keep moving, wait and see, or ask a doctor about the journey ahead.
You do not need to decide what the illness is by yourself. Focus on getting medical advice for your current condition and on giving the doctor and airline accurate information.
Consider arranging a consultation when you feel unwell before a flight, especially when the problem concerns you or may interfere with the journey. A doctor will assess your current condition and discuss the appropriate next steps without assuming a diagnosis.
In a life-threatening emergency, call 119 for an ambulance. Our clinic provides outpatient care and is not an emergency room.
If the problem begins near the end of your trip, note when it started and how it is affecting you. Bring your flight details and any requirements your airline or insurer has already given you.
A consultation is an assessment of your condition at that time. It does not guarantee that you can board, and the final boarding decision rests with the airline.
For broad context about health concerns during a Japan trip, see our health guide for travelers in Japan. It is general information, not a way to determine the cause of your symptoms.
After an examination, a doctor can discuss whether your planned journey appears medically appropriate. If your airline or insurer requests documentation, ask the clinic whether the relevant English document can be issued based on that assessment.
Our guide to Fit to Fly certificates in Kyoto explains how a medical assessment and travel documentation may fit into a return journey. Check directly with the airline for its current requirements.
If you still feel unwell after returning home, tell a local medical provider about your travel history and ask for medical advice.
Care at both clinics is self-paid. For current information, see the fees section on the Kyoto clinic page or the Osaka Namba clinic page. Check your travel-insurance policy and any documentation requirements directly with your insurer.
Contact the clinic by WhatsApp or email, or ask your hotel concierge or front desk to help arrange your visit. Bring your passport, travel-insurance policy, and flight details with you.
Before leaving Japan, travelers can consult Dr. Coming International Clinic Kyoto Station or Dr. Coming International Clinic Osaka Namba.
